Carys Anne Hughes
My imagination has been captured by the eerie
aspect of soul-less dolls mimicking life.
The Inspiration for my work is a fascination
with dolls, or doll like toys,
interwoven with narrative in visual portrayal, my memories
and my nightmares.
I work with ‘rejected’ and ‘discarded’
objects, dolls, toys and cloth which have their own memory,
I do not consider my work to belong to textile, craft, 3D,
or Fine Art rather it simply is work that exists because I
exist and I am telling the Story.
As an artist-maker I work with a variety of
media to communicate a narrative that is both personal and
universal. My media consists of rejected toys which I then
process using a variety of methods and specialist skills of
hand embroidery.
My workshops explore character through the making
of puppets and masks using my own methods to focus on confidence
in visual portrayal. I am deeply concerned with the human
condition which is what has drawn me back to working in the
dementia field for which I find many parallels.
I have excellent fund-raising skills,
having gained a travel scholarship to visit Prague. I have
also undertaken many training courses including NVQ Assessor
Awards, and Arts organisations in the areas of Drugs Awareness,
and Disability within Arts.
